Mark Your Calendars! Please join us for Volunteer West Island’s 8 th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Wednesday, August 20 th at the St-Raphael Golf Club. We are pleased that Montreal Alouettes’ team president and CEO, Larry Smith, has agreed to be Honorary President again this year and to help us achieve our goal of $50,000! (Click here for more information.) All proceeds will support important services and programs to help break isolation for seniors in our community so come out and have a good time while helping a worthwhile cause! The West Island is home to more than 26,000 people over the age of 65, and that number is expected to rise to 31,500 by 2010. For seniors with a loss of autonomy, Volunteer West Island offers a hot and frozen meals program. For some meal recipients, our volunteers are the only friendly faces they see all day. Autonomous seniors also suffer from isolation and we offer volunteer-driven programs such as computer courses, Tai Chi and a monthly social event to relieve the loneliness. Proceeds from our 8 th annual golf tournament will help to expand some of these programs so we can reach as many seniors as possible. We hope you can join us!
